Extra Information
How I Work
I am a counsellor with many years experience.
I since have qualified as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. This is an approach to which I have had much success.
Cognitive behavioral Therapy unlike Person Centered involves the client to be involved to a greater extent.
However depending of the issues presented and discussion with client, either approach may be used. Whatever you the client feels comfortable with and feels will be more effective in dealing with the issues you present.
CBT for example uses homework tasks which are agreed upon and set. The client completes the homework between sessions along with various reading material, and questionnaires. All of which helps the client to back up counselling sessions, with the ultimate "Goal" of future helping the client to counsel themselves.
However at the same time, the use of Person Centered skills such as Empathy, active listening and being non-judgmental to name a few, are still used along with CBT.
Together we will identify "Blind Spots" and areas of missed opportunities. And in conjunction with you, set Goals which are realistic and above all, achievable.
I will not try to tell you what you should do, or how to change your life, but merely try to see the world from your perspective, explore with you the meanings you attach to your experiences, and together explore the possibilities and options for change which are open to you.
In all the confusion, you may find yourself, these possibilities may have been missed or overlooked.
Above all, and most importantly, I will "Listen" to your story, and together lets explore the possibilities.
Bear in mind counselling is not a quick fix, a number of sessions will be required depending on the issues you present and the depth they have effected your life. Progress however will be reviewed on a regular basis, and feedback of progress given.
Client Feedback
I was having severe problems with anxiety and getting stuck in a perpetual loop of negative thought about my relationship with my partner. This eventually consumed me, greatly affecting both my job and my personal life. Approaching Paul was no mean step, I always thought counseling was for dysfunctional people and I never regarded myself as one of those. But through time Paul was able to help me see things in different ways, a bit like taking blinkers off. He armed me with strategies and tools to help me cope with these thoughts and now I feel like I'm in control of them rather than the other way around. Where I am now is a massive step on and I have Paul to thank for that."
